Life of David

I am beginning a series on life of David since he’s the model of what it is to seek after the heart of God. We need David as a shining example more than ever in this generation.

David’s expression of worship, David’s kingship, & David’s devotion is the gold standard for the church. But more than a spiritual patriarch he’s surprisingly a modern lad.

Psalms gives us a glimpse into a life of a complex psyche. We see his angst, his fears, remorse, daddy and mommy issues. If he was growing up in modern day, he would have been prescribed a cocktail of psychiatric medications to deal with his issues. But we see David dealing with his issues in different ways than us moderns do. He prays, cries out, sings, meditates, lift his hands and work out the internal tensions and struggles through an earnest relationship to God. This draws him remarkably close to God. So much so that God calls him “a man after God’s own heart” (1 Samuel 13:14). And in turn God trusts David with the responsibility of the Kingdom.

Our journey with David is simultaneously ancient and modern one. As we reflect upon David’s life we are able to see how his journey informs and guides our own.

So come along on a journey of taking a closer look at David, the shepherd boy turned king.
